Lafayette Park

Washington, District of Columbia
Client:

National Park Service

Lafayette Park, a small park within Presidents Park, has a long and varied past. The space has been used as a racetrack, a graveyard, a zoo, a slave market, an encampment for soldiers, and a focal point for political protests and celebrations.

The present park design was created by John Carl Warneke in the 1960s and the fountains were in severe disrepair when Waterline Studios was asked to assist in renovation for the Pope’s visit in 2008. Waterline’s evaluation found several design irregularities stemming from the use of industrial nozzles which required larger pumps and pipe sizes.

Maintenance and water quality issues were addressed by modernizing the equipment which resulted in the reduction of the maintenance burden, and the consolidation of the points of maintenance to entirely within the equipment space.
